Vice Chair and Director of Finance & Administration - Department of MedicineStanford Medicine is leading the biomedical revolution in precision health. We are transforming health care from after-the-fact diagnosis to prediction and prevention, and from one-size-fits-all medicine to personalized care that empowers people to lead healthy lives.With a primary reporting relationship to the Chair of Medicine and a secondary reporting relationship to the Associate Dean/Chief Financial Officer for the School of Medicine, the Vice Chair and Director of Finance and Administration (VC and DFA) position serves as the key business leader for the Department of Medicine and senior advisor to the Chair and faculty leadership. The successful candidate will partner with entities across Stanford Medicine, including Stanford Health Care, to integrate the finances and operations of the department and its faculty with the goals and initiatives of the overall clinical enterprise.The Vice Chair/DFA provides strategic leadership and direction for all financial and administrative functions including budgeting and financial management, strategic planning, human resources, research administration, academic affairs, facilities/space, compliance, and safety. The Vice Chair/DFA leads the department operations, establishes the administration's organizational structure and environment, and has oversight for administrative policies and procedures in the department.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Strategy and PlanningIn collaboration with the chair and other leadership develops, administers, and communicates strategic and operational plans to support the vision, mission, values and strategic plan of the department and school.OperationsLeads the day-to-day operations and finances of the department to include the timely, accurate, and comprehensive development and implementation of annual financial and space plans.Clinical ServicesPartners with Stanford Health Care and divisions to facilitate the recruitment, on-boarding and retention of Department of Medicine faculty, and champion Stanford Health Care priorities in the medicine specialty practices.Research AdministrationAssesses standardization of processes to improve pre- and post-award research administration across the department, while assuring department compliance with all university and federal award requirements.Financial ManagementEnsures that resources are allocated appropriately, particularly with regards to large scale investments and commitments.Human Resources and Academic AffairsOversees people management, including executive oversight of staff Human Resources, and Faculty Affairs.POSITION REQUIREMENTS:Master's degree in business administration, Health Care Administration, Public Health, or a related field or equivalent, such as a CPA or other advanced certification and a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible professional, managerial work experience, preferably in an academic medical center.

  • Demonstrated senior-level leadership knowledge, skill, experience, and abilities in the core duties to operate as a subject matter expert in business, management, accounting, budget planning, financial forecasting, and contracts and grants administration.WORK STANDARDS:Demonstrates the ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients and with external organizations. Promotes a culture of safety; communicates safety concerns; uses and promotes safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned.
