Job Description:
Summary:Meta is seeking a Mechanical Engineer experienced in the
design and operations of critical facilities to become part of our
Design Engineering and Construction team. Our data centers are the
foundation upon which our software operates with efficient ease.
Building and operating data centers the right way from the day they
go live is synonymous with ensuring capacity availability and
capital conservatism. The Meta Data Center Engineering team
endeavors to be the benchmark of innovation for the data center
industry and improve reliability, safety, and efficiency through
innovative solutions, enabling Infrastructure teams to excel in
achieving their goals. This position is full-time.Required

Responsibilities:Research, design and develop new data center
cooling technologies / systems to reduce cost, improve reliability,
efficiency, and speed to market. Contribute to development of data
center cooling strategy and roadmap.Initiate and lead cooling
R&D projects comprising proof of concept studies, prototyping
and pilot deployments to evaluate the technical benefits and
feasibility of various cooling technologies/solutions for broader
deployment within data center environment.Lead and implement
technical scope of all phases of R&D life cycle of cooling
solutions/technologies - design requirements and risks, design
development, verification/validation testing in controlled
environments (e.g. vendor labs and data centers), conduct design
reviews and seek approvals, technical documentation, patents and
publications.Lead and/or assist on new data center product designs,
integrating new technological advancements and requirements while
balancing business priorities around cost, efficiency, time to
delivery and sustainability.Responsible for data center product
mechanical systems strategies and infrastructure designs and
specifications as well as follow-up support of new product
delivery.Work closely with CSLA, Electrical, Connectivity &
Controls Engineering teams to achieve holistic new product design
that is optimized for cost, construction speed, operational
efficiency, and long-term fungibility/flexibility.Drive required
cross-functional collaboration with other Meta teams including
Design, Sourcing, Hardware Engineering, Network Engineering,
Automations and Controls, Construction, and Facilities
Operations.Develop strong research collaborations with data center
peers, vendors, academia, and government organizations to remain
current on industry trends while influencing technology
development.Evaluate new cooling system technologies and
collaborate with cross functional teams to transform those
innovations to manufactured equipment.Travel to vendor/design
partner locations and Meta's data center sites for
verification/validation testing of cooling
products/technologies.Minimum Qualifications:Minimum
Qualifications:Bachelor of Science in Mechanical EngineeringMinimum
ten (10) years of hands-on R&D experience in mission critical
mechanical (e.g. cooling) components and systems including concept
formulation, detailed design, modeling/simulation, prototyping,
verification/validation testing and installation/commissioning for
sustained operationsCross-disciplinary design, development and
operations knowledge of data center or similar mission critical
industry heat absorption and heat rejection systems:
server/rack/row level heat absorption (e.g. liquid cooling, air
cooling using heat exchangers), building/campus level heat
rejection (e.g. chillers, open cooling towers), facility &
technical water distribution architecture, associated automations &
controls systemsExperience and expertise in mechanical
modeling/simulation/analysis/design methodologies/tools - thermal
and structural modeling and simulation of cooling systems (e.g.
CFD, FEA)Proven analytical and troubleshooting skillsEffective
presentation and communication to peers, stakeholders and
leadershipPreferred Qualifications:Preferred
Qualifications:Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering - MS,
PhDProfessional Engineer registrationExperience in mechanical
(cooling) systems reliability modeling, statistical analyses, or
data science techniquesExperience in cost estimating methodologies
to establish business cases for R&D projects - e.g. Total Cost
of Ownership (TCO), ROI, etc.Working knowledge of design,
development, and manufacturing processes as applied to adjacent
data center systems and solutionsExperience in applying systems
engineering elements/methods to R&D projectsDesign and
operation experience with large and complex data centers, including
campus systemsWorking knowledge of relevant domestic and
international standards, building codes and safety regulations for
cooling systems including NEC, ASHRAE, NETA, ANSI, IEEE, NFPA, UL,
UFC and UBCPublic Compensation:$170,000/year to $240,000/year +
